What is Facebook Watch?

Facebook Watch is a video sharing service and like you can make money from Facebook by uploading your video to Facebook.

Video on Demand service was announced on behalf of Facebook on August 9, 2017. Earlier it was just launched in the US. So far only selected publishers were given the opportunity, they can monetize their video on Facebook.

Facebook has launched worldwide on August 29, 2018, and the video on Demand service has been renamed to Facebook Watch.

Over the past year, the company has added many new features to it. About this, Facebook says, "With the global launch of Watch, we are supporting publishers and creators globally in two critical areas: helping them make money from their videos on Facebook with ad breaks and help them better understand how their content is performing with Creator Studio."

How to Make Money from Facebook Watch

Facebook Watch will be monetized via ad breaks. This will work just like you show Adsense through YouTube. Image ads will also be shown along with mid-roll and a pre-roll ad under Ad breaks. Whenever an advertisement is shown, there is a revenue share between the publisher or the creator.

Note: The revenue share that Ad breaks will hold will be 55% for creators and Facebook will hold 45% i.e., as is the revenue share in YouTube.

Ad breaks are now being started in the US, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia. In September 2018, it will be expanded in English and other local languages in 21 other countries, the name of the country is: Argentina, Belgium, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, The Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, France, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and Thailand.

Note: It has not yet started in India but it is believed that within the next 3-4 months this service will be started in India too.

Monetization Eligibility Criteria

There are some eligibility criteria for monetizing your Facebook videos that you can follow to monetize with Ad breaks in your Facebook page.
  • You must have a Facebook page.
  • Your page should have at least 10000 followers.
  • The videos you publish in the last 2 months should have 30,000 views and the length of that video should be of minimum 3 minutes.
  • A view here will be counted only when the audience sees your video above 1 minute. (Even if the video is seen for 59 minutes, then 1views will not be counted).
  • If you have a service for Ad Breaks in your country then you can monetize it.

Facebook has also launched globally with creator studio with the Facebook watch, ad breaks. Where you can manage your entire content library and business.
